Alcatraz Island is located 1.5mi/2.5km northeast in San Francisco Bay.It is also called as  “THE ROCK”.it was  a small island  which brought a dark mystique to the rock from  1934 to 1963. The prison operated for almost thirty years.It was  america’s western symbol of military strength.it was known for housing .Alcatraz Island was surrounded by freezing waters and hazardous currents.Prisoners were did not visit in thier cells during the day.It was a  federal prison for most notorious criminals.it was  one of America’s most infamous prison.In 1986 it was designation as a National Historic Landmark . Prison buildings are seismically upgraded for enjoyment and for futute generations.Now each year over one million tourists board the Alcatraz ferry and visit they want to see what was once considered the toughest Federal prisons in America.In 1972  Alcatraz Island becomes a national park.12acres rocky area is covered by Alcatraz Island.And it becomes one of the part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area.In year 1973 it was  opened for public .Across year more than  one million people visit it from whole of the world.Food and drinks are prohibted there.Many people come here to see the  federal prison .Sea birds are also creates attraction for visiting here.
